CINEMATIC WEDDING FILM · MUGUR MARIN
Printre pași — Cosmina & Dan, between the present and memory
Two rooms, a hallway and two people — Cosmina and Dan — walking towards one another. The first idea arrived in the very first hour of the wedding; the whole film would grow around it.
Printre pași — rendered here as Between the Steps — is my first wedding film with an independent artistic title rather than the couple's names.
An encounter imagined before it happened
At Venetian Bucharest, the apartment rented for the preparations, I noticed an elegant hallway connecting two bedrooms. I imagined the couple getting ready separately, then stepping out of their rooms and walking towards each other. From the doorway of one bedroom, I found an angle to frame the eventual meeting. I immediately understood that the scene could hold the structure of an entire film.
Colour is the present. Black-and-white is memory.
I filmed the encounter knowing I would divide it across the edit. In colour, they move gradually towards each other. Between those moments, black-and-white sequences take us into the past — moments already becoming memories. I postpone the meeting until the final shot, when they come together by the doorway, in colour.
I knew the plan from that first hour, roughly two weeks before editing began. The narrative wasn't something I imposed on unrelated footage afterwards; I shot those particular images to make it possible.
What remains between the steps
The preparations took place at Venetian Bucharest, and the reception at Reina Events. But this film is not simply a record of movement between venues. It is about getting closer and about how quickly the present becomes memory.
